After developing a keen interest in hospitality at a young age, Recruitment Co-Ordinator Richard Riordan has had a long career in various roles within the industry before making the switch to hospitality recruitment. Richard has been with the team at TSS for over 4 years now, remaining an integral and hard working addition to our tight knit cohort.

Recently we asked Richard to share with us how he came to be working at TSS and what keeps him inspired inside and outside of the office.

Thanks for your time today Richard, could you tell us first a bit about where you grew up?

I grew up in Bayside Melbourne in the suburb of Beaumaris. I was very lucky as it was only a short stroll to the beach, although despite this, I’m surprisingly not a great swimmer.

What was your first job?

I first worked as a kitchen hand in very busy cafe at my local shopping centre during my high school years. Although being a tough, sweaty job, it was where my passion for the hospitality industry grew.

How long have you worked for TSS?

My time with TSS has just ticked over four years. Although it feels like only yesterday that I started here.

What is the best part of your job?

I would have to say the satisfaction of changing peoples lives for the better. Helping our candidates secure employment here in Australia while providing a new start for them and their families is extremely rewarding.

My colleagues are also another great part of my job. Although we all work hard, there is always plenty laughs and fun around the office.

When you are not busy at work, what do you like to do?

I love to read. Im very much into science and politics. I also like discovering new places to eat and drink. There is nothing I enjoy more then to share a wine with friends in one of Melbournes many fantastic restaurants and bars.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

I have been fortunate enough to see most of Europe and loved every inch. The diversity and culture of it all was amazing.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Im the forth son in succession to be named Richard Riordan in my family.

What are your top 3 favourite foods?

I love Japanese cuisine, French and Thai. We are lucky to have many amazing world class restaurants right here in Melbourne.

Who would you like to meet - dead or alive?

Ricky Gervais - Because I love to laugh

Jon Stewart (From The Daily Show) - Because of my interest in politics and again I love to laugh

David Attenborough - Because of my interest in nature and science
